Why It's Important to Keep Your Cat Hydrated, and Tips to Help Them Drink More Water!

Updated: Jul 20, 2022

Cats are notorious for being picky. One thing we as owners cannot allow them to skimp on is the intake of enough fresh water and hydrating foods. Cats suffering from dehydration can succumb to a myriad of health issues, but here are some quick tips and things we use in our rescue to help you keep your kitty cat hydrated through out your day to day.

  1. Offer a wet food option one to two times a day in addition to their dry food. You can also add 1-2 tablespoons of water to the food. Especially if you are adding in a powdered probiotic. They absolutely love it!

2. Offer healthy tasty treats like Gerber chicken baby food when ill or after taking a medication or deworming.

3. Pick up some Hydracare by Purina. This gravy like sauce is something ALL cats cannot resist. The texture and flavor will have your cat hydrated in no time. Below is a link for a product we use.

4. Purchase a water fountain. It may sounds expensive but the typical fountain cost ranges from about $25-$100 for the fancier fountains. The cheap ones work just as well and you can replace parts as they break down so you dont need to buy a new fountain if one piece stops functioning properly. It's no secret that cats love wet food, but adding the Hydracare to dehydrated babes could 100% save their life. Adding a fountain alongside a bowl of fresh water will definitely promote water drinking in your house even for the most fickle feline. It is very well known that a hydrated cat or kitten has a better shot at a long and healthy life. We know you love your fur babies like family members and you want to keep them as happy and healthy as possible. Adding a couple things to your home like the fountain and having wet food and Hydracare on hand will make sure they stay happy and heathy for a long time.
